Mental Health America of Colorado (MHAC) is Colorado’s leading nonprofit educator and advocate working to eliminate the stigma of mental illness and increase access to mental health treatment.
Overall Summary:
MHAC has a unique development role as a team member focusing on developing and enhancing Individual Giving through an annual giving program, assisting in the creation of a planned giving and endowment effort, and working with team members and President and CEO on cultivating corporate relationships. This position will work with a group of development professionals in advancing the fund raising and external relations initiative at an organization that is deeply rooted and highly regarded in the mental health and non-profit communities.
Aspects of the Position:
- Contribute to the overall strategy and operation of the development department.
- Maintain strong relationships with donors and create an ongoing stewardship plan to service all donors.
- Develop and implement a system to respond to, track and follow-up on all prospective donors building a portfolio for annual/individual giving, planned giving and corporate funders.
- Develop and implement a targeted prospecting and recruitment plan for adding donors to the portfolio of prospects for individual, annual, planned and corporate giving.
- Develop and implement a system for effectively managing the portfolio of prospect donors so as to secure a thriving giving campaign.
- Provide stewardship and excellent customer service to all current and prospective donors by implementing effective ways to continue conversation and update. This can be done as appropriate to the donor level and involvement by phone, mail, and personal visits
- Work closely with the Community Relations Manager in implementing a plan focused on increased donor giving and stewardship.
- Maintain donor records in database and be skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Promote the mission and vision of MHAC.
Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
- 3-5 years of experience and proven success in non-profit fundraising, or similar experience requiring strong customer service skills (e.g. political campaigns)
- Knowledge of SAGE FR50 or similar donor database programs
- A passion for mental health and the mission and vision of the organization
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and an ability to work effectively with an energetic and collaborative team of professionals
- Proven ability to organize and meet deadlines
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
- A self starter with ability to independently set and accomplish goals in order to drive success
- A working knowledge or willingness to learn the technical aspects of planned giving
